"Hi, I’m Tom Rhoads, CEO of Spencer Health Solutions. Today we have the first of two interviews with Michelle Shogren. Michelle is a familiar face on conference stages as a 25 year veteran of the clinical trials industry. Most recently as Senior Director of Business Excellence and Innovation for Pharma R&D at Bayer Pharmaceuticals. She recently left Bayer to form her own consulting firm, but more on that in a later episode. For now, I know you enjoy this discussion on innovation in the pharma industry with Michelle Shogren and Janet Kennedy, on this episode of People Always, Patients Sometimes."
In this episode, Blake speaks with Michelle Shogren about how incorporating the patient experience in decentralized models breathes innovation into clinical trials.
Innovation in the pharma space seems to be something we all take for granted. We naturally assume that this is where great innovation is always happening as we read about new diseases, outcomes, and breakthroughs in research. In today’s episode, we explore the role of innovation in the industry and the difference it makes to all of our lives.
Michelle Shogren is on a mission to innovate Clinical trials by leveraging the users in that ecosystem through their knowledge and voice to bridge the silos that are created in the Clinical trial ecosystem. Michelle plans to bring the voices of sponsors, CROs, sites, patients, caregivers, patient advocacy groups and solution providers to the table to help create those new solutions or new ways of working with a better chance of success. With over 20 years in the Clinical Research industry, Michelle is now helping companies achieve their full potential through her new company Innovate in what you do.
As the industry works through the disruptive nature of flexible, device enabled, community focused trials, her years of experience bring value to the multiple players in this ecosystem.
Michelle’s greatest passion, beyond adrenaline sports, is customer focused innovation and responding to the voice of patients/participants, sites, and study teams.
This week we discuss the complexity of breaking down silos, the downside of sponsors customizing everything, and importance of making your voice heard.
In this episode Maya and Michelle Shogren, CEO of Innovate in What You Do! LLC, are discussing the importance of innovation in clinical research. Michelle has been on both sides of clinical trials - as a patient and as part of the operations teams. She has almost 20 years of experience in different roles - caregiver, research coordinator, site and marketing director, CRA, and multiple roles in Pharma. Michelle is now running her own company with the same goal of helping people navigate and improve clinical trials.
